The impressive-sounding feat seems to have been a success, prompting a tip of the hat from The Last of Us Part 2's developer to the controller’s design team. The Last of Us Part 2, meanwhile, is only 10, down from 40. The ultimate goal was to better simulate the world as the games' creators had originally envisioned it on the PlayStation 4. Margenau explained that he had worked with the controller’s team earlier this year to “ help improve certain timing, intensity, and “texture” of haptics.” The firmware update’s job, it seems, was to translate directions given to the last-gen controller’s rotating weights so the DualSense, using a significantly different system, could understand them. In a long Twitter thread posted earlier today, Naughty Dog’s Kurt Margenau dove into the DualSense upgrades and the controller’s inner workings. First launched in 2013, the narrative masterpiece has seen an official remaster on PS4, a sequel on PS4 that was patched to support improved performance on PS5, and now a complete remake set to arrive on PS5 in the coming months. The performance-boosting PlayStation 5 patch introduced an optional 60fps mode, which doubled the PlayStation 4’s 30fps. With Naughty Dog though, never has this been more obvious than with The Last of Us. ![]() A recent announcement from PlayStation revealed The Last of Us Part 2’s newest-gen version had received a new, free patch which boosted the game’s framerate significantly.
